ITCP General Entry Requirements

The following set of core entry requirements apply to all applicants wishing to become certified as an ITCP. This is to ensure the applicant is of suitable professional standing to be eligible for ITCP certification.

All applicants must:

  • Not be an undischarged bankrupt;
  • Not be in prison or serving Home Detention;
  • Be of good and sound character (See the Areas of Assessment page);
  • Be a full member or above of the NZCS, the professional body of the ICT sector (note that an applicant may apply for both membership and Certification simultaneously, however the membership application will be processed first). This includes MNZCS, FNZCS and HFNZCS.
  • Have two supporters of sound standing prepared to act as Referees and confirm that the requirements of Certification have been met (see Supporter eligibility page).

Applicants must also meet the specific entry requirements for their chosen Certification Route.

NZCS Membership

NZCS is the professional body of the ICT sector and works to improve education and professional standards in IT in New Zealand and around the world. While there are many IT-related organisations and groups in New Zealand, NZCS is the only professional body.

As a professional body, members of NZCS abide by the NZCS Code of Ethics as well as complete CPD - Continual Professional Development (continual education).

ITCP is a certification including both an initial assessment and ongoing professional requirements. The ongoing ethics, disciplinary processes, CPD, and process related to ITCP is managed through NZCs, making membership essential.

This requirement is similar to almost all other professions and professional certification programmes.
